The Worm

Bubba's been pushing himself up onto his hands and knees for a little over a week now. He'd get up, hang out that way for a few seconds, then lower himself back down onto his belly and flail his arms and legs about for a bit. Then he'd repeat the whole process again. He would get really excited and it was pretty dang cute to watch. When he got really excited, he'd try to go forward. The problem is that he hadn't realized he needs his hands to go forward as well as his head, so he would just end up face planting on the blanket.

Well, last night I noticed that he picked up on why he was face planting. He's still lunging forward without moving his hands, but now he holds his head up so that his chest hits the ground instead of his face. This results in him scooching forward a few inches. Then he lifts himself up again, holds it for a few seconds, then falls forward on his chest again. In this way, he is moving himself forward. I got him to scoot all the way across the blanket (about 4 ups and downs total) toward me last night. I was so proud! It's not crawling, but it's getting there.

And it occurred to me, that up, forward, fall on the chest, up, forward, fall on the chest motion looks just like he's doing a little baby version of "the worm."
