Pulling Up
Earlier this week, Bubba was sitting in his crib while I showered. When I got out, I saw him lean forward and grab the railing. He didn't really do much beyond that, but since he's been pulling himself up on my hands for a while now, I knew it was only a matter of time.We needed to lower the mattress.
Well of course, with us being us, we totally put it off/forgot about it. Then, Friday night, we got a new mattress for our bed. My old mattress was one of those $98 each piece Sleep America specials and was over ten years old. The middle was completely saggy and it was thin and uncomfortable. It was also only a FULL, because I bought it for myself in my first apartment. Yeah, that means we've been squeezing myself, my husband, the baby, and two dogs on a double bed. Crazy.
When my former boss offered me her guest room mattress that was less than two years old because she wanted to switch to a sofa sleeper, I did not hesitate! It is a pillow top and almost a foot higher than the old bed. This means little dogs can no longer get up into it. Best part - it is a QUEEN! We have room to SPRAWL, hahaha! We got a friend to help us out with getting it and hauled that bad boy home.
It sat in the living room overnight, because we needed to go buy sheets in the new bigger size. In the morning, we put the baby in his crib (which is in our room, thankfully!) so we could swap out the mattresses. As we were dragging the new one into the room, I hear my husband shout "HEY! What are you doing???" I'm thinking, duh, I'm moving a mattress, when I look over toward the crib.
Dang if that baby wasn't standing up in his crib with a big ol' grin on his face!!! That mattress was dropped with a quickness so I could grab the camera. As per our usual MO, we waved it around to see if we could get him to do it again.
He didn't pull himself all the way up again, because he slid forward too far, but as you can see, he made the best of the situation. When I set the camera down and pulled him away from there, he was covered with teeny white flakes of paint. Time to buy one of those rail guards!
It's kind of weird because now, in the space of one day, our bed is way higher and the baby's bed is way lower. Before they were about the same height. I slept on it last night for the first time, and it's pretty dang comfy. Hooray for a grown up bed!
