Monsoon!

I live in the desert. I hate this desert. It's dry, and it's hot, and generally miserable six months out of the year. There's not a whole lot that's good about summer time if you ask me, with the exception of my birthday hiding out there in the middle of August. Oh, that, and the monsoons. Glorious, glorious monsoons! Technically, they're just the winds, but the winds bring RAIN. I love me some rain, and I love gray overcast days. Monsoons are a thing of beauty as far as I'm concerned. Generally they start the first week of July and continue out into August.

But not this year. We haven't had any rain since March 23rd, which is absolutely ridiculous. For the past few weeks, as the day gets later the clouds start to roll in and the air gets heavy. There has even been really impressive thunder and lightening. Dust storms made visibility drop. Too bad we didn't get any rain to go with those things. It's like the monsoon has been mocking us.

Today, however, things finally changed. Darkness started to roll in earlier than usual, about 2:30 in the afternoon. Sure enough, by three it was POURING. I sat in my front doorway and let the boy check it out from our patio.

Poor Phoenician baby didn't get what this wet stuff falling from the sky was at first!

Best to check it out from the safety of inside.

Okay, maybe the proverbial toe in to check the waters...

Nope! Back inside!

He seriously would run out, watch the rain for about half a minute, then run back to the safety of that window over and over again. He was cracking me up!

Finally starting to get a little wet.

Standing back to contemplate it all.

Discovering puddles. Just a little one, to be sure, but enough in which to splash and dance.

By this point he was pretty wet but he no longer cared.

He also kept trying to lick the water from his face, which is why his tongue is out in so many of these photos.

Catching raindrops.
